Charles A. Tierno
On July 16, 2020 of Washington Twp. Age 83. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. (nee Downam). Devoted father of, Michael Sweney (Maureen), Anthony J. Tierno, Christine N. Tierno and the late Valerie M. Raively. Loving grandfather of Nicole, Laurie (Scott), Sharon (Dan), and Lisa. Proud great-grandfather of Ryan, Cora, Aubrey, Connor, and Morgan. Dear brother of the late Joseph A. and Carmela E. Tierno. Loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Charlie served in the Army and 82nd Airbourne division, where he was stationed in Augsburg, Germany. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and Parachute Badge before receiving an honorable discharge in 1958. He enjoyed his position and was entrusted with confidential information and loved the adventure of being a Para trooper.
In the early 70’s, Charlie served as a volunteer Special Police Officer for Washington Township for almost four years. He had great instincts on the job and never missed an opportunity to share those stories with everyone who knew him.
He started his career in produce with Penn Fruit in Havertown, PA and A&P. He was a Journeyman Meatcutter and Meat Manager with Acme Markets and retired after 30 years there.
Besides being at home with his family, he enjoyed visits to Ocean City, NJ and eating at The Crab Trap. He loved watching the boats on the bay and sharing family memories. He was a fast walker and could walk the entire boardwalk in record time (then he’d indulge in his favorite Kohr Bros. custard without fail).
Charlie was an extremely generous, hard working, honest, funny and charismatic guy and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Tuesday 8:30-10:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at The Church of The Holy Family, Washington Twp.
