Catherine C. Durante
(nee Shevlin) of Washington Township, NJ, age 94 passed peacefully at her home on August 6, 2024.
Catherine (Cass) was the beloved wife of the late Augustino Anthony. She was born to Anthony and Bridget Agnes Shevlin. She is predeceased by her eight siblings Richard, Andrew, Margaret, Mary, Nellie, John, Mary and Steve Celio.
Catherine was the loving and devoted mother to her two children, Anthony (Mary) and John (Kathy). In addition, she was the loving grandmother to four grandchildren Dawn (Josh), Michael (Tove), Thomas (Heather) and Christine (Timothy). She is also survived by three great-grandchildren Mabel, Jackson and Logan. She is survived by three loving nieces Eileen, Marie and Peggy and their families. She will be greatly missed by all.
Catherine was born and grew up in southwest Philadelphia. She first worked in a dress store, then Bell Telephone, before settling into a supervisory position with Keystone Auto Club and Insurance Company (AAA) for thirty-four years.
In 1950, she married her loving husband Tony who was a sheet metal worker and later a Philadelphia Police officer. In 1968 they relocated to Washington Township, New Jersey.
Cass was a volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey for seventeen years where she proudly oversaw the daily operations of two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township (now Jefferson Hospital).
Catherine was a devoted catholic who knew every Saint to pray to for specific problems. She often prayed the Saint Therese Novena.
Cass was an avid knitter and left a legacy of beautiful creations for family, friends and charities. Some of the most cherished items were sweaters/vests, baby sets and blankets, custom Christmas stockings and scarves.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM.
Interment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cass’s memory can be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, 550 Mickle Blvd., Camden, NJ 08103 for use at the Family Rooms.
