Brian Charles Jackson
October 9, 1959 – March 15, 2025
On March 15, 2025 of Glassboro. Age 65. Beloved husband of Dawn (nee Royds). Dear brother of Lew Jackson (Jeanne), Linda Dever, Bob Jackson (Marge), and the late Sue DeMarco. Dear brother in law of Al DeMarco (Carol). Survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brian Charles Jackson was born in Bryn Mawr, PA in the fall of 1959, the 5th child of Wilbur Lewis and Luna Will Jackson. He and his 2 brothers (Lew and Bob) and two sisters (Linda and Sue) were raised in Marple Newtown, Pennsylvania. He met his love, Dawn Dianna Royds by God’s divine intervention in Media, Pennsylvania. They married in September of 1987, a year and one day after their first “date” as Brian called it. Although they never had any natural children, God gifted them with “adopted” children whom he loved dearly. Married for 37 years, Brian and his wife Dawn loved and respected each other deeply and completely. In 2021 and 2022, Brian helped nurse his wife back to health after a serious illness while single-handedly navigating the move back to New Jersey. In 2023, Brian began having symptoms and was diagnosed with stage-4 esophageal cancer which he fought courageously. After an 18-month battle against this beast, God healed and delivered him from all sickness and pain and brought him home to heaven.
Although Brian struggled with drugs and alcohol from his teens to mid-twenties, he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in the fall of 1986 and left that lifestyle behind for good. Over the next 38 years, Brian grew in godly wisdom and knowledge and served the Lord faithfully. Whenever possible, Brian used his own experiences to help others and encourage them to turn to God. Brian readily gave of his time, talent, and treasure to advance the Kingdom of God and help those whom God placed in his path. He taught Middle School and High School Sunday School classes, led Young Adult groups, taught adult Marriage Builder Sunday School classes, and provided pre-marital counseling and marriage counseling with his wife. He was also a great speaker and enjoyed teaching from the pulpit, whether a short admonition or a full sermon, he always managed to interject a bit of humor. He served as a Deacon, Elder, and Minister at the Tabernacle Church of Laurel, MD prior to retiring to NJ.
Prior to their move to Maryland, Brian was able to work with family in construction for many years which was a truly special time for him. In Maryland, he worked as a carpenter for several companies before starting his own carpentry/remodeling business. Eventually he became a home inspector which he loved dearly. It was easier on his body and gave him the opportunity to use his great knowledge and interpersonal skills.
Brian had an incredible mind. If the subject was interesting to him, he remembered even the smallest details. His favorite subjects were the Lord, the Bible, his family & friends, history, baseball, football, & music. One time playing Trivial Pursuit, Brian’s team won the game in just one turn, largely due to Brian’s incredible mind for trivia. He was also a great researcher. A favorite saying of his was “know what you believe and why you believe it.” Brian had a great love for dogs and cats, and they loved him. His most recent pet, Mackenzie, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, had a very special place in his heart and most likely they have already played a game of fetch together in heaven.
As an extreme extrovert, Brian loved spending time with friends and family. His emotions went deep, and he didn’t try to hide them. If you were a close friend or family member, no doubt you heard him say “I love you” many times and were on the receiving end of numerous big bear hugs, sometimes with tears in his eyes conveying the deep sincerity of his words. He was loyal, faithful, and true in every way.
Brian was also an amazing storyteller and an extremely talented writer. In his younger days he wrote for some local newspapers, but more recently he authored two amazing books that his wife will publish for him. One is a memoir that is deeply moving and inspirational. Brian’s ability to paint word pictures is absolutely incredible. His second book is a fast-paced fiction suspense thriller that he began writing in 2010 and picked back up in 2019. In 2021, his book was a finalist in the American Christian Fiction Writers Association Genesis Contest for unpublished authors.
Today, we celebrate the life of Brian Jackson! He was a gift to each one of us that we treasure deeply and will never forget! His greatest desire and prayer was to see every member of his family and every friend establish a close personal relationship with Jesus as their Savior. Brian recognized that his true citizenship was in heaven and today he is celebrating the reality of everlasting life with his Lord and Savior in paradise. This earthly life is short, but the decisions we make here regarding salvation last forever. He hopes that each of you will join him there when you reach the end of your days here on earth.
