Betty L. Jericek, “Jerry”, age 94, of Sewell, NJ, passed away peacefully, on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023.
She was born in Baltimore, MD., on November 11, 1928, the daughter and only child of the late James and Bertha (Kraft) Jericek.
Jerry was raised in Baltimore, and lived in several places, including Hawaii, before moving to Washington Township and finally to Parke Place in Sewell, NJ. She lived her final days at The Terraces at Parke Place.
She graduated from Forest Park High School in 1946.
Jerry was as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for most of her working career before retiring. She also for many years raised seeing eye dogs for the Seeing Eye Dog Association. She enjoyed that very much. She loved dogs.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with treasured friends, going out to eat, shopping at Macy’s (her favorite department store,) and driving her red Cadillac. She relished being born on Veterans Day as her father was a veteran and played the bugle during parades and Jerry marched with him. She was a member of the Glassboro VFW Post 679 Auxiliary.
Jerry was also a faithful Catholic Christian and was a parishioner at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, Glassboro and attended Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church of the parish. She was a member of the Young at Heart Club and also the Catholic Daughters. Jerry also volunteered at the parish as a collection counter.
Jerry donated to many charities and most especially to The Seeing Eye Dog Association, the VFW, the USO, Disabled Veterans, American Heart Association, Gloucester County Animal Shelter, and other animal rescues.
She is survived by her loving and trusted friends who were like family to her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear friend, Richard Praiss.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church of Mary of Mother Mercy Parish, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Fr. William Kelly will officiate.
