Anthony “Nino” Barca
On December 27, 2024, of Glassboro. Age 93. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Genovese). Devoted father of Anna Marie D’Alessandro (Joseph), Josephine Barca (Richard), Philip Barca (Kimberly), and Daniel Barca (Tricia). Loving grandfather of Joseph, Nicholas, Dominic, Brendan, Philip, Anthony, and Sophia. Proud great-grandfather of Joseph, III, and Lucca. Dear brother of the late Joseph, Philip, Carmela, Natalie, Grace, Virginia, Jenny, Sam, Angelina, and Salvatore.
Anthony (Nino) Barca was born in Barcellona, Messina in Sicily on December 21, 1931. He was the 2nd youngest of 11 children. As a child he spent many nights with his father Philip protecting the grape vines sleeping in a self made straw hut. Nino began his trade as a Barber in Italy which became his life’s passion. He came to America at the age of 22 and worked with his brother Phil at his Barber Shop.
On February 16, 1958 he married the love of his life Mary. They had 4 beautiful children, Anna Marie, Josephine, Philip and Daniel, whom he was very proud of.
In 1978, Nino opened his own Barber shop named The Golden Touch/Nino’s Barber Shop. He had an incredible work ethic who took pride in his chosen profession of being a Barber for over 70 years, working into his early 90s. He listened and learned from his customers who also became his friends.
Nino was an usher in St. Bridget’s Church and a member of The St. Anthony’s Beneficial Society and a former member of The Knights of Columbus. He will be sadly missed by Family and all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday, January 4th 9:00 – 11:00 am at St. Bridget’s University Parish, 125 Church Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am. Interment St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Glassboro.
In honor of Anthony’s life, in lieu of flowers or other acts of sympathy, his family would encourage any donations to St. Bridget’s University Parish at the address above.
