With love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of a woman who brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone who knew her.
Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Anna was a proud graduate of South Philadelphia High School. From a young age, she showed a strong independent spirit and a determination that would carry her throughout her life. In her younger years, she loved spending time with friends at The Alhambra Skating Rink and going to dances – moments that were filled with fun, laughter, and lasting memories.
It was while working at Bayuk’s Cigar Factory that Anna met the love of her life, Frank Markawicz. Together, they built a life rooted in love and commitment, raising two young children and later opening a neighborhood corner store that carried and sold fresh fruit, produce, and, notably, fish on Fridays to their community. Anna had a natural gift for connecting with people and her warmth made everyone feel like family.
In 1976 she moved her family to Washington Township NJ, where she continued to pour her heart into both her work and her home. While raising her children, she worked for many years at Caesar’s Pasta, always balancing responsibility with love and care. Anna was a “hands-on” devoted mother; whether cheering from the stands or working at the concession stand at her children’s sporting events, she was always there full of encouragement and pride. She had a creative spirit and loved crafting. Her outgoing, funny personality made her a light in every room forming friendships wherever she went.
Later in life, she and her family found deep faith as members of their local church, where they gave their lives to The Lord Jesus Christ. Anna faithfully served alongside her husband as an usher and was an active member of the senior group, cherishing both fellowship and service.
Her greatest joy was her family. Anna was overjoyed to see her first grandson marry, proud to celebrate her second grandson’s high school graduation, and absolutely delighted in becoming a great grandmother. She treasured time with her nieces and nephews and shared many joyful laughter-filled moments with her great nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Annie.
Anna leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and devotion. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday 9:15-10:45 am at Calvary Chapel 5360 Rt. 42 North, Turnersville. Funeral service 11:00 am. Interment, Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
