Angelo M. LaPollo

January 7, 1934 - August 23, 2013

Angelo Michael LaPollo, 79, of Sicklerville, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Turnersville on Aug. 23 with his daughter and sister by his side.

Family and friends are invited to attend A Celebration of Life that will be held at The Italian Affair in Glassboro at 1pm on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Angelo was born in Lindenwold to Angelo and Ruth (nee Esslinger) LaPollo on Jan. 7, 1934. He went to St. Lawrence and Lower Camden County Regional High School. He was known throughout the Southern New Jersey region for his entrepreneurial spirit. He worked as an apprentice at Danks Funeral Parlor of Lindenwold, for the U.S. Postal Service, he owned a gas station in Williamstown, worked as a milkman for Mill Side Farms before becoming manager of Lehigh Valley Farms, was a chauffeur for an RCA executive, opened the first limousine service in NJ called Car and Driver, worked for Joseph Catering, Sir Walter Catering, and then opened his own catering business “Catering by Moonlight” in Clementon, managed by his daughter. He rounded out his career with Sir Walter Catering at Renaissance in Blackwood until the age of 76. He was a veteran who served in the Navy Reserve based out of Lakehurst for 16 years. He was involved in the Laurel Springs Rotary, enjoyed dancing at the Berlin VFW on Friday nights, and was an active crabber, fisher, gardener, and chef.

Angelo is preceded in death by daughter Felicia LaPollo and sister Ruth Ann Rowlands.

He is survived by children Michael LaPollo of FL, Sharon LaPollo of Turnersville, and Angela Bittle (Michael) of Laurel Springs; sisters Caroline LaPollo Doyne of TX and Lillian Macarella of FL; grandgirls Melina Sullivan, Stephanie Lezotte, Shonda LaPollo, Angela LaPollo, Jessica LaPollo, Kayla Stott, and Nicole LaPollo; and 3 great-grandchildren Gavin, Delaina, and Brielle. He is also survived by former wife and friend Dorothy LaPollo and long-time companion Ida Sullender.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund at 333 N. Summit Street, P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, OH, 43699-0086.

The family of Angelo wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Heartland nurses, aides, and social workers.

He was waiting for me on my sixteenth birthday with a dozen roses and his limo. He took me out for the biggest, juiciest steak dinner ever. What else can I say? I will miss my 'favorite' cousin. He was one of a kind. He always made me feel special:-)) xoxo

Junior was such a loving and caring person. I remember it was his fifth birthday when I married his Uncle Fred on 1/7/39. We didn't have have much in those days and Junior wanted to help.He came to our door with his little arms holding little sticks of wood for our wood burning stove. He remained that thoughtful and caring throughout his life. I love and miss him very much.

Honey. These last 10 years have been great. Making dinner together. Good times we had dancing. Made a lot of friends. Always fun. Playing cards with the neighbors. Joan and you always talking food. They loved listening to your life stories. I listened a thousand times. I will miss you very much. Right now I don't know how I can make dinner without you. I never know how much salt to put in. Dad I will miss you so much! I think most of all I will miss all the crabbing trips that you and I took together and boy did we take hundreds of those! Poppop, I'll never forget the time you came to my concert wearing a two-piece white suit, zebra-stripe patterned shirt, and large gold medallion around your neck. Can you say coolest grandfather EVER?! And you were so kind to let me keep all those Little People houses, Thundercats, and Transformers in the Catering by Moonlight back office! I do have to say, however, that I ate so many cherries from the bar (thanks, George!) and so much chocolate mousse that I still cannot eat either to this day :) Nothing but pleasant memories here. xo, Professor Stephanie

Today, I will celebrate the life of a great man, Angelo LaPollo "Ang". Today I will try to have no tears, but be happy that I was blessed with knowing a truly loving, caring man. I have known Ang for most of my life, he has given me a gift of treasured memories that I will hold within my heart forever. Thanks Ang for not only sharing your life with me, but sharing your daughter with me. Forever in my mind....forever in my heart...

I never got to meet Mr. LaPollo, just heard many stories from Sharon. I'm pretty sure he was a success! My condolences to the family on your loss, peace & blessings to all of you! I will truly miss our phones conversations to and from work everyday, your weather forecasts, what you and Ida had for breakfast and what the two of you made for dinner. I will miss hearing about your daily bargains at the supermarkets and your stories of your childhood. I could go on and on, simply because I already miss everything about you..... I love you Dad.. I had no idea my dear friend passed i loved him soo much and it made me soo sad to hear he passed. He will surely be missed, i have known him for along time and we spent alot of time together and it was such a pleasure and honor to know him

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Lapollo (Angelo) a couple of times. I work with his daughter, Sharon. They adored each other! They spoke to each other EVERY morning & evening, on Sharon's ride to and from Egg Harbor Twp, Blue Tooth-of course! What a vibrant and loving man he was. I know Sharon's heart is broken, but I'm sure the memories she holds dear, will help to heal it. You will be missed!

Junior, I will miss our two hour phone conversationsonce or twice a week. I know how much you enjoyed hearing about all the info that Tony has been gathering about our family tree. Some things that even you didn't remember. I'm so happy that I was able to spend the last days of your life with you. When I was little and you used to say I was your baby sister, I used to get so mad but after I got older, I would remind every one that I was, indeed, your baby sister. I will miss my big brother. Say hi to the love of my life, Lou. Your BABY sister. xoxo
