Angela Santacroce
(nee Lazzara) was born in Sicily, Italy and was raised by nuns in a convent as her parents did not have the means to take care of her and wanted her to earn an education. During her time there, she thrived and excelled in her studies and earned a teaching degree. Upon graduation, she returned home to her family. Shortly thereafter in 1967, at the age of 19 she came to America with a small suitcase and the hope for a better life. She and her family settled in Brooklyn, NY where she worked in a garment factory in NYC and went to school at night to learn English. She met her husband Corrado in 1968 and they married on October 25, 1970. They raised four children and have four grandchildren.
Angela was very social and enjoyed her Casino bus trips, always playing the penny slots.
She was a member of Filitalia Club and Catholic Daughters of America for the past 30 years. She dedicated her life to her family, being a homemaker once her children were born. She loved to take care of and cook for her family and looked forward to Sunday dinners. Having a houseful of kids and grandkids were her favorite moments and she insisted on cooking every Sunday until most recently when she was no longer able. Angela was diagnosed with Kidney cancer in 2012 and battled the disease relentlessly until it metastasized to her pancreas last year and ultimately succumbed to the horrible disease.
Angela is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Corrado, four children, Salvator Santacroce, Cynthia Santacroce (Joe Villari), Lucas Santacroce, and David Santacroce (Kathy) and four beloved grandchildren, Ava, Joey, Valentina and Angelo as well as her younger brother Giovanni Lazzara (Maria) and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she adored so much.
Angela’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family due to the health care crisis of COVID-19. Angela’s life will be celebrated at a later date with family and friends.
