On March 15th, Alan Mark Dwornick of Sicklerville, age 64 passed away after a 20 month battle against cancer. He fought hard and strong to the very end.
Alan was born on February 25, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA. His parents were Alfred and Helen Dwornick, both deceased, of Cherry Hill. He attended and graduated Cherry Hill High School class of 1970. After High School, Alan was in the Navy (1971-73) during the Vietnam War.
For over 20 years Alan owned and operated a wedding photography business “The Wedding Gallery”. It was at one of these weddings that he met his wife, Darla. He also drove a bus for Hillman’s Bus Company up until he had to retire due to his illness.
He loved the Casinos, You could always find him playing Black Jack at Bally’s or Caesars on a Wednesday or Friday night. In January of 2014, Alan won a trip to Las Vegas, Caesars Casino to participate in a nationwide Black Jack tournament in September. He found out he had cancer that same summer. In August he had brain surgery and began his chemo treatments but still went to Las Vegas to participate in the tournament. In a tournament of 250 people he finished third place. He was only one hand away from a million dollars! A very happy, proud moment that cancer almost took from him.
He also loved history, WWII fighter planes, Science Fiction (Believed we are not alone), and puzzles. Alan was the handiest of handymen, he could fix or build almost anything. He had a quirky sense of humor and he loved, loved, loved his daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Darla (nee Girgenti), and two daughters Rachel & Gillian. His Sister-in-law Claudia (nee Girgenti) Super, Brother-in-law Bill Super, Nieces Jessica Super & Shannon Super and his nephew Steven Super.
A memorial service will be held at Egizi Funeral Home on Gantown Road in Turnersville on Thursday, March 24th doors open to friends and family at 6:30 pm and the service will begin at 7:15 pm. All friends and family are invited back to the Dwornick’s house afterwards for food and refreshments.
